ChatGPT reads Yelp and Healthgrades for dentist questions in your city. The two practices it names most appear on both. You appear on neither.
- yelp.com · cited in 31 of 50 answersThe market leader, Yelp profile, 312 reviews
- healthgrades.com · cited in 18 of 50 answersThe market leader, Healthgrades profile
Why this may matter: Consistent, complete business information across trusted local profiles is a standard local SEO practice and gives answer systems clearer source material to compare.
Suggested test: Complete both profiles, keep the business facts consistent, and recheck the same ChatGPT questions.
Strong evidence. Results are measured again, not promised.
Every opportunity separates the observed evidence, the expert rationale, the suggested test, the evidence strength and what to measure next.
The shift
People are asking AI instead of searching.
When someone asks “best plumber near me,” an AI tool answers with two or three names, not ten blue links. If your business isn't one of those names, that customer never sees you. Your customers are already asking. Most local businesses aren't in the answer yet.

The platforms doing the recommending
Findings
Five AI platforms. Five different answers.
Each assistant reads its own sources and answers the same question its own way. A business can be the recommendation on one platform and never once named on another. Same business. Same week. Same questions. One overall score would hide that completely. You would never know a platform has you at zero.
Example opportunities: evidence, rationale and the next test
Evidence strength: Strong evidence
Measure next: Whether ChatGPT cites either profile and names the practice more often on the same controlled questions.
This is a well supported opportunity to test, not a promise that ChatGPT changes its answers.
You are missing from all 6 emergency questions. Every business named on them shows 24 hour service on its website. Yours does not mention hours.
- the leader's own site · cited in 6 of 6 emergency answersEmergency dentist: same-day care, open 24 hours
- the second practice's site · cited in 4 of 6 emergency answersAfter-hours and emergency care
Why this may matter: A focused, crawlable service page can make relevance, availability and location clearer to both search engines and answer systems.
Suggested test: Publish one clear emergency care page, then recheck the same six questions on the tools that named competitors.
Evidence strength: Strong evidence
Measure next: Whether the page is cited and whether the practice is named on any of the same six emergency questions.
The observed gap and SEO rationale make this test worthwhile, but no ranking or recommendation change is promised.
Perplexity cited your competitor's reviews 31 times and yours once. Their review page is public and indexed. Yours sits behind a login.
- the leader's own site · cited in 31 of 50 answersPatient reviews, public and indexed
- your site · cited in 1 of 50 answersReviews, behind a login
Why this may matter: Content hidden behind a login cannot be crawled like a public page. Making useful review evidence accessible is consistent with basic technical SEO practice.
Suggested test: Publish an indexable review page, confirm it can be crawled, and recheck the same Perplexity questions.
Evidence strength: Moderate evidence
Measure next: Whether Perplexity cites the page and whether the citation gap changes on the same controlled questions.
Accessibility removes a clear technical barrier. It does not promise a citation or a recommendation.
Examples. Yours start with your own Benchmark, add an expert SEO rationale, and turn the observed gap into a test you can measure. No ranking change is promised. See the one-page sample report →

Merchant categories where visitors arriving from an AI answer converted better than search visitors, by 56% on average, with 14% larger orders (Shopify commerce data, 2026). Fewer clicks, better customers. Being the business AI tools name is the whole game.

100%
How often three AI models recommended the well-known brand over a lesser-known one with identical specs, in a controlled skincare study. A small rating edge for the challenger was enough to break it (Chu & Hou, arXiv:2606.17443, CC BY 4.0, not yet peer reviewed). What the AI reads about you decides.
How we measure
One consistent snapshot now. A stronger measurement every week.
The same 50 questions, every week
Each Benchmark asks every controlled market question once on all five platforms. Four weekly snapshots show what persists and what actually changed.
A snapshot first, an observed range over time
One Benchmark shows the current result. As weekly evidence accumulates, you see the four-week average, observed range and direction without false precision.
Five platforms, scored separately
A blended score hides the platform where you are at zero. We show all five. The zeros are impossible to miss.
Evidence becomes a test, not a promise
Every opportunity separates the observed answers, expert rationale, suggested test, evidence strength and next measurement. The evidence is visible; the outcome stays open until it is measured.
What we will never do
- Promise a change will raise your score. We explain the observed gap and why established SEO or content practice makes it worth testing. Whether it moves your number is what the next weekly Benchmark tells you.
- Hide a week where nothing moved. If you did the work and the number sat still, we say so. A tool that only ever reports wins is a tool you should not trust twice.
- Report a rank position in AI. There is no such thing. Anyone selling you “you rank #3 in ChatGPT” is selling you a number they made up.
- Show you a number that failed our own quality check. Every scan is checked against known results before you see it. When the check does not pass, we hold the report back and rerun it rather than show you a number we do not trust.
Why we spell all this out: in an independent census of 74 AI visibility tools, only 6 published a methodology a reader could actually check (CitedIndex, August 2026). This page is ours.

Common questions
What is AI visibility?
How often AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name your business when someone asks the questions your customers ask. It is a different measurement from search rankings. A business can rank #1 on Google and almost never be named by AI.
Is this the same as SEO?
It is related but not the same. We connect gaps observed in AI answers with established SEO, local search, content and technical practices. Each opportunity names the tool, source, expert rationale and next test. That makes the guidance useful without pretending any change is certain to improve a ranking.
AI gives a different answer every time. How can you measure that?
One answer can move. That is why every Benchmark asks the same 50 controlled questions across all five platforms, then repeats the full Benchmark each week. One week shows the current snapshot; four comparable weeks show what is persistent, what changed and the range we actually observed over time.
Can I actually influence what AI says about me?
You can improve the information AI tools can find and evaluate. Each opportunity starts with what the tool actually answered, adds an expert rationale, and suggests one measurable test. The next weekly Benchmark tells you what moved and what stayed the same. It never promises the tool will change its answer.
Can you guarantee my visibility will improve?
No, and you should be suspicious of anyone who does. We show observed gaps, explain why established SEO and content practice makes each one worth testing, label the evidence strength and re-measure the same questions. If nothing changes, the report says so.
Is Kensume SEO software?
Kensume is AI search visibility software: it measures how often ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews name a business when people ask the questions its customers ask, and shows the answers and cited sources behind every number. It is not a rank tracker, a crawler or a backlink index, so an SEO or content team can use it alongside tools like Semrush or Ahrefs rather than instead of them.
How long does setup take, and do we need outside help?
The free scan takes a few minutes: name the business, confirm the account email, state your relationship to the business and start the first Benchmark. There is no implementation project, nothing to install and no data to migrate. A paid plan adds scheduled Benchmarks and findings on the same account; selected-platform rechecks are included on the Full Benchmark and Agency Full Benchmark packages, not on Market Check, Market Monitor or Agency Monitor; a recheck pack can be added to any paid package once it is offered. A solo founder, a small business or a marketing team can run it without an agency or a consultant.
Is there an API, and what does Kensume integrate with?
No public API today, and no chat, email or calendar integrations. Agencies import clients from a CSV and share reports by link; every answer, source and score is visible in the app and on the report. If your team needs an export beyond that, tell us at support@kensume.com.
How do you handle security and our data?
Traffic is encrypted in transit; accounts verify their own email address and record who is authorized to manage each business; no scan runs anonymously. We store the AI answers we collect and your results so you can audit every score. Kensume does not hold a SOC 2 report today and does not claim one; the privacy policy and terms state exactly what is collected and kept.
Who is Kensume for?
Business owners can see the plain-language priorities. Executives and marketing leaders can track markets and evidence over time. Marketing teams, operators and agencies can use the exact sources, suggested tests and next measurements to plan the work.
Why do I need scores for each platform separately?
Because the platforms disagree. Each assistant reads its own sources and answers the same question differently, so a business can be the recommendation on one platform and never named on another. A single blended score hides exactly the zero you need to know about.
What do I get in the free scan?
One complete 50-question Benchmark across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, with your current visibility and competitive position. Detailed evidence, weekly tracking and recommendations come with a subscription. No credit card needed.
How long does it take?
A couple of minutes to set up. We check the same 50 questions once on each of five platforms, all in parallel. Most results should arrive in minutes; provider delays are shown honestly instead of being turned into zero scores.
What is the difference between a Market Check, a Market Monitor and the Full Benchmark?
A Market Check ($49 a month) asks 15 of the 50 market questions on all five AI tools once a month, the same 15 for every business in your market, and keeps its own history. It is the price-accessible way to see whether AI visibility deserves your attention, and it is not the official Benchmark. A Market Monitor ($119 a month) asks all 50 questions twice a month and is the official Benchmark series. The Full Benchmark ($249 a month) asks all 50 every week with four selected-platform rechecks per cycle. Upgrading starts the fuller series; everything measured before stays visible and unchanged.
How many markets can I monitor at a time?
Market Check, Market Monitor and Full Benchmark each monitor one market at a time. Choose any supported market, whether or not it has been scanned before, and change which markets you monitor without losing history. Packages that monitor several markets at the same time are listed under the three cards on the pricing page, with an estimator that shows the exact monthly and annual total for the number you need.
What do agencies get?
Two agency packages on the same ladder: Agency Monitor ($299 a month), Agency Full Benchmark ($549 a month). Each includes 2 client markets, adds more at its own per-market price, and stores an unlimited number of client workspaces with their history, each kept separate, with CSV client import, the agency portfolio view, client-branded reports and share links, and one bill. Change which client markets you monitor without losing history. Kensume supplies measurement and decision evidence, not done-for-you remediation, and never promises a ranking.
Is annual billing cheaper?
Every plan is billed monthly, and the charge is stated exactly on every card: Market Check is $49 a month; Full Benchmark is $249 a month; Agency Full Benchmark is $549 a month. Annual billing is not sold to new customers right now; existing annual plans are unchanged. Cancel anytime; you keep what you paid for through the end of the period.
Can anyone run a report on any business?
Not anonymously. Before any scan runs, free or paid, the account verifies its own email address (any address works) and states how it is connected to the business, as its owner, an employee, an outside marketer or an agency, with a recorded statement that it is authorized to manage it. What we measure is public: what AI tools say when asked. No email at the business's domain, no DNS record and no invitation from the business is needed, so an agency or an outside marketer can measure every client they manage.
